Rachel's Story

18 months ago I weighed over 28 stone and was miserable.

I have tried so many diets over the years and would always lose 3 stone then give in, I would have never dreamed of joining a gym!

When you weigh 28 stone, exercising is easier said than done. I lost 3 and a half stone by following Slimming World. Then when I started to feel myself getting bored, I made a change and joined a local Kettlebell class with my friend.

I felt sick for 48 hours after that first class but was determined to carry on and went onto to do 2 classes a week.

People had often suggested joining a gym, but the thought of going to a gym when I was still so large was very daunting. But when I started to lose interest in the Kettlebell classes I knew I had to make another change or I would slip back into my old habits.

I joined Total Fitness on 5th July 2013. I was shaking as I signed the paperwork. I felt very self-conscious and thought everyone would be staring and laughing at me.

I forced myself to go to the gym at least twice a week and gradually felt myself getting fitter. I still felt self-conscious but it got easier and everyone seemed very friendly.

Towards the end of the year I found myself going to the gym less and less and my old eating habits kept back in. Over Xmas I put on over half a stone!

In January I was on the treadmill when I was approached my Adam El Koussy who asked if I was interested in a free 45min PT session ... I knew I was struggling with motivation and had lost 8 stone at this point. I didn't want to put any more weight back on, so in a moment of madness I said yes!

That was a life changing moment right there. I loved that 45mins, it was tough going but I felt that fire in my belly again to lose weight and get fitter and healthier.

I have been working with Adam twice a week ever since. He has taught me so much, not just about exercise but also diet and nutrition. We all know what's good and what's bad for us, but he has taught me the reasons why and helped me get the right balance for me. I stopped following the Slimming World diet as soon as I started with Adam. He asked me to trust in his healthy eating plan, I did and haven't looked back since.

I am no longer on a diet. I live a healthy balanced lifestyle and I am achieving things I never thought possible.

I have now lost over 14 stone, half my starting body weight and I feel great.

Total fitness for me, was a massive changing point in my life. I cannot imagine not been a member.

I train twice a week with Adam, I attend classes such as dance aerobics and LBT, and love getting up early on a Saturday morning, putting my iPod on and losing myself for an hour or so on the Stairmaster!

The gym is no longer a scary place to be. It is a place I enjoy going to. It's a massive part of my life. It's a friendly place where people you don't even know come up and congratulate you, it's like having hundreds of people right behind you cheering you on.

Life is good again, I am doing things I never thought I would be able to. Next year Adam and I have signed up to do a skydive to raise money for Wakefield Hospice. I can do that now as I am well under the weight restriction!
