Planning a summer break that means you can keep on top of your fitness goals? Well you’re spoilt for choice if you’re heading abroad!

We’ve picked out two holiday options – one that’s best for grown-ups and one that’s best for families to keep active abroad this summer. Which will you choose?

Europe's largest sports and fitness resort (grown-ups)

Playitas in Fuerteventura is a brilliant year-round destination for those looking to stay fit or get fitter.

You can choose to stay in the hotel, the aparthotel or a private villa, but you won’t be spending much time in your room with so much on offer around you! In addition to the comprehensive daily programme of free classes – everything from circuit training to spinning, Pilates to Zumba, sun salutations to step classes – there’s a further selection of daily classes on offer for a small charge.

The resort is also very popular with road and mountain biking enthusiasts. Other sports at Playitas include tennis, badminton and golf, but if water sports is more your thing, an independent outfit offers sailing, kayaking and kite surfing.

Playitas is located on a broad sweeping beach, plus if you feel like treating yourself to a little pampering, the spa might just be the ideal sanctuary for you.

It’s a haven of wellbeing and peacefulness, ideal for single guests and couples who want to enjoy nature, relaxation, tranquillity and sport in a perfect climate all year round.

Fitness fun in Ibiza (families)

When you think of Ibiza, would you think it’s the perfect setting for a family fitness holiday? Probably not, but you’d be mad to skip over this hotel…

Casa Tekne is a remote, traditional stone estate in the village of St Miguel in the north of the island, fringed by acres of orange and lemon trees and complete with a fully-equipped gym, spin bikes, gymnast mats, a full-size punch bag and Olympic standard trampoline.

The whole family is catered for with a wide variety of exercise classes on offer – these are interspersed with hikes through beautiful fields of wild flowers and dense pine forests, plus there’s a chance to go horse riding!

Keeping an eye on your healthy nutrition won’t be a problem either – the chefs will serve you healthy, lovingly-prepared meals throughout the week, using fruit and vegetables picked from the organic garden every day.
